Thibault Holemans was born to Thierry Holemans and Sabine Nicodème on October 9, 1989 in Braine l’Alleud, Belgium. It was through his parents – his father a jewelry designer and his mother a florist and painter – that Thibault inherited a flair for the artistic.
Thibault’s creative pedigree stretches back through the generations to his great-grandfather, master craftsman Henri Holemans, who established the Holemans Workshops in 1922. It was here that Henri created his finest religious masterpieces while learning the secrets of Urushi from a Japanese master. This knowledge passed from father to son, and in 1960 Jean Holemans became head of the family atelier and introduced a more secular style. In 1981 the first Holemans House was established and the use of lacquers on precious metals was introduced – a first for any Belgian jewellery studio. In 1990 Thierry inherited the helm from his father and, less than a decade later, opened a boutique on the Place Vendôme, Paris. Some highlights include the launch of L’Orichalque, ‘Living Jewels’, in the presence of HRH Princess Astrid and the creation of the wedding tiara for Isabelle Orsini and her wedding to H.E. Edouard De Ligne La Trémoïlle in 2009, which is now on display in the Boggy&Thol gallery in Chiang Mai. Continuing the dynastic tradition is Thierry’s son Thibault, a goldsmith and master-lacquerer, who is following in his father’s footsteps by designing and creating the latest fashions for the House of Boggy&Thol.
Thibault’s first foray into jewelry was in 2006, when his father offered him a two-week stint in his workshop. Here he learned the basics with a master jeweler from the Holemans Jewelry workshop, one of the most famous ateliers in Belgium.
In 2007, at the age of 17, he decided to begin his apprenticeship in jewelry and the ancient art of Urushi Japanese lacquer. His studies would last for the next five years. During this time, Thibault attended classes in sculpture at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.
In 2012, at the end of his apprenticeship, he decided to take time to reflect and realize one of his dreams, a pilgrimage to Mont Saint-Michel in France, then to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. He left Brussels with a backpack, sturdy shoes and a stick and set out for three months of walking.
Along the way he met a master glassblower and decided to take up a three-month internship at the Verrerie de Coteaux in La Vallée de la Loir in France.
In 2016 his father asked Thibault to join him in Thailand, where he was setting up a new jewelry workshop. Today he is a designer and head of the workshop at Boggy&Thol in Chiang Mai.
Thibault’s philosophy involves using his life experience and imagination to create unique jewelry and objets d’art. He desires to create art that aesthetically and symbolically represents emotions that will bring happiness to those who see it and wear it.
